Adopt-A-Stream: volunteer water quality monitoring
Doane College, PHS, and Nebraska Wildlife Federation have collaborated to develop and test an on-line teaching system to set up volunteer stream monitoring groups across the five county health district (funded by the EPA's Environmental Education grant program). This project will provide the foundation for a state-wide volunteer water quality monitoring program currently being investigated.

Below are water quality maps (as of 2008) for the PHS area. You can see that these do not include the smaller streams, most of which are not being monitored regularly.
Blue = status unknown
Green = some designated uses are being met, but insufficient data on quality relating to other uses
Yellow = insufficient data to determine quality
Red = Quality is impaired for some or all designated uses
