Q: How is Public Health Solutions District Health Department funded?
A: The Public Health Solutions District Health Department is funded in several ways. The initial creation of the health department was funded by the Nebraska Tobacco Settlement Bill, LB 692. If the funds are left alone, they will continue to partially fund this health department as well as many other health agencies across the state for about 20 years. Health departments established under LB 692 were also provided with additional infrastructure funds through LB 1060, which is subject to annual budget review and cuts/eliminiation. Public Health Solutions is writes grant applications and does some contract work with other organizations.

A: No public health is for everyone! It works to protect the health and well-being of all people, young and old, from rich to poor.

A: A public health department works to promote health, prevent disease and protect communities. By focusing on the community as a whole, public health departments provides services based on the community specific needs.

Q: I am concerned about my water quality. How do I get it tested?
A: Public water systems are tested routinely for a long list of potential contaminants and quality indicators, but the water lines from the main system to your residence may influence quality from the tap. Private well systems may (and should!) be tested annually by the owner to ensure health and safety. Lower Big Blue NRD (Gage County, some areas of Jefferson and Saline Counties), 805 Dorsey St, P O. The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (402-471-2122, option 2) and Central District Health Department (308-385-5175, waterlab@cdhd.ne.gov) each have a water lab and will test samples for a fee. Fees vary depending on what tests you want done.
