Veteran's Health Issues and Services
Veterans often face challenges in learning about and accessing health care after they leave the military, especially considering many of the special needs created by military service (i.e. physical, social and mental disability).
The Nebraska Partnership for Veterans Care is a collaborative effort by Nebraska's National Guard, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Veteran's Affairs, and the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System. The goal increase veteran's awareness and access to VA health care, and to enroll every veteran in Nebraska into the system.
In addition to health care, veterans are eligible for many other VA benefits.
In 2007, the Partnership held a conference to help community counseling and treatment providers learn how to prepare family and friends for their loved ones' return, and in 2008 they held a wellness conference for returning veterans, families and providers. Plans are being made for a 2009 conference, geared towards educating employers about the needs of veterans as they return to the workplace.
