- Community involvement from start to finish is critical to generating and implementing any successful community health program.
- The underlying purpose of public health planning is always to continuously improve population health and the performance of the local public health system.
1. Plan.
- Assess the current health status
- Assess the capacity and effectiveness of the local public health system
- Make comparisons to health goals and the status of other regions
2. Implement. Put strategies to improve public health and expand or enhance the capacity of the local public health system.
3. Evaluate. Assess the effectiveness of the strategies, and the relevance of previously identified priorities.
4. Repeat. Public health planning is a cycle, not a linear process.
