Extra or Old Meds? Don't Flush 'Em!
Lots of recent studies have shown that medications and personal care product ingredients are finding their way into our surface and drinking water, which can cause all sorts of problems for the environment and our health. In addition to threatening our water supply, having lots of extra medications around the house isn't safe for children (or teenagers looking to try something they shouldn't).
- Follow the prescription instructions, and use it up entirely if directed.
- See if your pharmacy has a "talke-back" or "donation" program to get extra medications out of your cabinet and into one of someone in need
- DO NOT FLUSH these products under any circumstances
- Make the extra or expired medicine unusable (add kitty litter, coffee grounds, small amount of nail polish remover, anything that will make it unlikely to be used by someone else)
- Place the mixture deep in the trash where young children won't get to it
