Many factors that contribute to cancer are preventable, including being overweight and not getting enough physical activity. More than 48% of the women in this region are overweight and 80% do not get regular or sustained physical activity. It has been estimated that 50% to 70% of cancer deaths are attributed to preventable lifestyle behaviors such as these.
The Teens Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Program is an innovative breast cancer and prevention program that promotes the establishment of lifelong lifestyle behaviors in female teens age 17 to 18 that will decrease the risk of developing breast cancer. Presentations are held in area high schools.
This program empowers teens to initiate breast cancer prevention discussions with mothers, grandmothers, and other female family members.
